Financing media Products
Investigating where the funding from the following comes from:
Films
Independent films garner funding from many different places. One of the most popular ways of funding these low-budget films are private investors or agencies that are willing to play their part in the production of the film. Another way these films are funded, especially in Britain are through the lottery as the lottery provide grants to art they believe is worth investing in, one of the most popular films includes Harry Brown, which provided a grant for this film.On the other side of the spectrum massive film companies fund their multi-million dollar films through dozens of outlets, one of the biggest ways is through brand deals with big companies outside of the industry such as McDonalds, Budweiser beer, Various soft drink companies and even car manufacturers have sometimes endorsed such films. As well as this the obvious sources of funding are cinema ticket sales from other films and the production of merchandise which also creates a lot of revenue for companies to carry on making massive blockbusters.
TV Programmes on Commercial Channels
Terrestrial TV includes channels like ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5, these are channels that viewers don't pay any fee to watch however they make their money off of the advertisements they use during commercial breaks.
Satellite, PPV and cable channels are all funded by monthly, yearly or one time subscriptions and they are also funded by advertisements.
The BBC
TV programmes are an exception to the rule, although the BBC channels come under terrestrial (as in once you by a TV you can watch these channels), the British population in fact have to pay TV license which is how the BBC gain funding for their many, many programmes.
